Google’s latest AI Mode advertising expansion is relevant to businesses running Search campaigns in India and other newly included markets. The useful question is what to review in an existing account, rather than whether every advertiser needs a new campaign.
What Google announced
Google announced on October 28, 2026 that it is scaling ads in AI Mode to Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Singapore. Its official announcement also names Brazil, Mexico and the United Kingdom as planned Q4 expansion markets.
The company separately announced ads for follow-up questions in the United States. That U.S. feature should not be read as a confirmed launch in every country above. Ads carry a Sponsored label.
For businesses running Google Ads campaigns in India, the important development is the additional Search environment in which an eligible ad may appear. It is not an announcement of guaranteed inventory for every business or a reason to increase spend before reviewing campaign performance.
Which campaigns can participate?
Existing campaigns and formats
Google’s current campaign guidance says existing Search, Shopping and Performance Max campaigns can participate through the auction; a separate AI Mode campaign or budget is not required. Availability is in English in the listed markets, and Pakistan is limited to text ads.
Direct-query and contextual matching
The matching method matters. Google describes AI Max, broad match, Shopping and Performance Max as eligible for contextual and direct-query matching. Exact and phrase match can participate for queries with direct commercial intent, rather than contextual matching to broader exploratory questions.
Our recommendation is to review the role of each campaign before changing its targeting. A tightly controlled lead-generation campaign and a retailer with a large catalogue have different tolerance for additional reach. Keep the existing objective in view: a useful sale or qualified enquiry, not simply an extra impression in a new interface.
A longer question is not automatically a better lead
Imagine a buyer asking: “Which office chair suits a small home office if I sit for eight hours and need delivery in Chandigarh?” That is an illustrative query, not an example of a confirmed ad placement. It combines product requirements, practical constraints and a location in one request.
Match the destination to the decision
A generic chair category page may leave too much of that question unanswered. A more useful destination would make dimensions, ergonomic features, delivery coverage and returns easy to assess. The same principle applies to services: explain who the offer is for, where it is available and what the next step involves.
Review the questions your sales team already receives. They often expose a gap between a broad ad promise and the information a buyer needs before acting. Our guide to understanding search intent explains how to assess that need. Fixing that gap helps the customer whether the visit comes from conventional Search, an AI experience or another channel.
For a structured starting point, use our Google Ads keyword research guide and the keyword research tool to build a shortlist around the offer you can actually fulfil.
Measure business outcomes before expanding spend
Read campaign reports carefully
Google says AI-surface performance is included in standard campaign and search-term reporting in aggregate. Its guidance also says advertisers cannot target only these AI experiences or opt out of them separately from Search. Paid participation does not influence the organic AI response.
That reporting context is important when interpreting a change in results. A stronger campaign-wide conversion rate does not, by itself, establish that AI Mode caused it. Changes in promotions, budgets, competitors, targeting or the website could also matter.
Measure qualified outcomes
Before making a campaign change, record the current cost per qualified lead or completed sale. Decide what improvement would justify keeping the change and what deterioration would trigger a review. Where lead quality is important, compare enquiries with the outcomes in your sales process rather than treating every submitted form as equivalent.
Avoid changing the budget, targeting, creative and landing page at the same time unless there is a clear operational reason. A narrower change is usually easier to evaluate. This is Highbav’s measurement recommendation, not a rollout requirement from Google.
What we would check this week
- Confirm the market and offer. Check the current availability guidance against the country, language and product or service you advertise.
- Audit the destination. Make sure the relevant page loads, the enquiry or checkout journey works, and key conditions are visible before the customer commits.
- Review irrelevant demand. Look for queries that repeatedly attract the wrong audience and assess whether exclusions are appropriate for the campaign.
- Check measurement. Test conversion tracking and agree how sales quality or revenue will be reviewed.
- Set a review point. Allow enough evidence for the account’s normal conversion cycle. A quiet day or a small handful of clicks is not a reliable verdict.
For a business that has not yet resolved broken forms or slow pages, those fixes deserve attention before a new reach strategy. More traffic cannot compensate for a customer journey that fails after the click.
Highbav’s view
This expansion gives advertisers another reason to make their offers and destinations specific. We would treat it as a campaign-readiness review, rather than a separate channel that needs an immediate budget allocation.
Search advertising and organic visibility remain different disciplines. If your team is also working on how its expertise is understood in AI-generated answers, our answer engine optimization services address that separate goal.
